Molla-Vali Vidadi
O you with the sugar-sweet mouth and cup-like lips...

O you with the sugar-sweet mouth and cup-like lips,
To my eyes your delicate face seems a mirror
Into which my loving heart looked and was stunned-
How I wish I could own that magic mirror.

Love, I look upon you and myself as one.
Do not leave me, 1 pray, o my moon, my sun!
Since the day we parted my troubles began.
I keep counting the days and the hours, my mirror.

Summers and winters drag slowly without you.
I've wept oceans of tears; if I only knew
Where you are! Do not veil your face from view,
So the sun and the moon may deliver my love to my mirror.

Show your beautiful face, lighten up the skies,
Let the soberest men lose their heads from surprise!
Tears of blood pour forth from my eyes.
Rise again like a new moon, my mirror!

I've been ill since the day my first look I took
Of your face. Burn my soul with your dazzling look.
Who, unable to read beauty's book,
Can understand the Koran, my mirror?
